Jakob Mitterer received his first cello lessons at the age of 8 at the conservatory of his hometown Merano. At the age of 15 Mr Mitterer moved to Vienna and was accepted into the precollege of Vienna's Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst to study with Wolfgang Aichinger.
After his graduation from high school, Mr Mitterer continued his studies in Vienna under Robert Nagy and later under Peter Somodari. In 2018, the Erasmus+ scholarship enabled Mr Mitterer to study at the CNSM de Paris under the tutelage of Marc Coppey and Raphael Pidoux.
During his studies, Mr Mitterer gained orchestral experience in projects with the Ensemble intercontemporain Paris, the Concertgebouw Orkest Amsterdam and the Gustav-Mahler-Akademie Bozen From 2021 to 2022, Mr Mitterer worked for the Wiener Symphoniker and in 2023 he joined the cello section of the Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck. As a guest, Mr Mitterer performs regularly with orchestras like the Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento, the ORF Radiosymphonieorchester Wien, the Wiener Symphoniker and the Münchner Philharmoniker.
In addition to his orchestral career, Mr Mitterer works extensively as a chamber musician. As a former member of the Artel String Quartet Vienna, he received a scholarship from the ProQuartet Foundation of the centre européen de la musique de chambre Paris and in 2018 Mr Mitterer co-founded the Duo Ariarathes with which he appeared in numerous festivals and venues. As a soloist, Mr Mitterer appeared with the Tiroler Kammerorchester, the Orchester der Akademie St. Blasius and the Southtyrolean Youth Wind Orchestra.
Mr Mitterer deepened his knowledge on the cello and music in masterclasses with renowned artists such as Miklos Perenyi, Frans Helmerson, Gary Hoffman, Julian Steckel, Wen Sinn-Yang, Jerome Pernoo, Norbert Anger, Sebastian Klinger and Wolfgang Herzer.
Next to his musical career, Mr Mitterer also obtained a master's degree from the Vienna University of economics and business.
