The Iranian Pianist Nika Afazel was born in Tehran, where she received her first piano lessons at the age of 5 from Hamidreza Rezayi. Later, she was accepted into the studio of Gagik Babayan at the High School for Music in Tehran.
After her graduation and her first artistic experiences in Iran, Ms Afazel moved to Germany in 2012 where she pursued her studies in the studios of Jacob Leuschner and Sheila Arnold at the HFMT Cologne. Next to her piano diploma, Ms Afazel received a master's degree in Lied interpretation. Furthermore, Ms Afazel broadened her artistic horizons at the Conservatoire national Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris where she was granted the Erasmus+ scholarship and studied with Michel Dalberto and Claire-Marie LeGuay. Additionally, she received artistic inputs in masterclasses with renowned artist such as Alexander Lonquich, Claudio Martinez Mehner, Alan Weiss, John Perry, Robert Levin and Felix Gottlieb.
Over the years, Ms Afazel won several awards such as the Baldwoski-award and the special award at the Rhein-Ruhr-Lied competition. Among others she frequented institutions and events such as the Rudaki Hall in Tehran the Villa Pignatelli in Naples, the Beethoven Festival in Bonn and the DomForum in Cologne. This includes many appearances as a soloist with many different ensembles. As a sought-after chamber musician and Lied-pianist Ms Afazel was invited to festivals like the Südtirol Festival Merano or concert halls like the Haus der Musik Innsbruck and was also recorded by the WDR (West German Broadcasting Cologne).
